ISSUE: Ochibau are dropping like flies.
QUESTION: What gives?

Possible answers fall into 3 categories:
1. personal (user)
2. community (members)
3. technical/board (site)

Please help me figure out what is wrong and what to do to fix this --at least so that the causes of this comm malfunction do not fall into categories 2 and 3. Feedback is requested required because the site is being held hostage by the admin. <--bastard.

BTW: I'm back... did you miss me icon

For the record, this triggered by a "welcome back, ochiba... I'm leaving this comm" oemail I got in my mailbox today along with the glaring fact that artists are missing... dead... whatever. Something is wrong here and I can't put my finger on it because I've been out of touch with things here for a while. I enjoy coding more than running a website and more often than not I get excited about ideas and want to make them happen... it makes me disconnect with members who I'm coding for. I'm really sorry x__x;; That said, it should be obvious I give a crap about you guys and your happiness here, else I'd be writing code 100% for myself... right... right?!

Comments

reading through a chunk of comments here, i have found things to agree and disagree with. the feedback issue seems to be a recurring theme. at first, i found the lack of feedback to be discouraging. i did wander off for a pile of months, and when i came back, i made an effort to get to know people, as opposed to settling me work here and waiting for people to say something, and the feedback issue fell onto the back burner. i have always likeed ochiba for its community aspect. if i wanted an archive for my work i could easily find one. i like ochiba because it isnt an archive. i have gotten to know people here, and thats why i come back. to drop a shoutbox message. to drop an oemail. to see who is around to engage in silly hijinks with. i love the people here. even when all of us arent posting, there is stuff going on in the background. i adore the fact people link me to things they think i might enjoy reading, through shoutouts and oemails, and i do my best to offer as much by way of feedback as possible. but there are some truly epic pieces of writing in here, and i think people may be getting daunted by length, if nothing else.

it might be worth rounding up the writers who are feeling feedback depressed, as well as some of the more high profile folks, and see what we all can work out. i dont know if it would help you to have someone on the writing end of things helping keep in touch with everyone, but thats an idea. it also might be worth cycling through some of the less known authors in the spotlight. i do see a regular cycle of a few particular pieces/writers. the exposure might help folks get more feedback.

now that i have unloaded my brain at you, let me know if there is anything i can help you with dear!

i am not involved in the art end too much, so i cant really offer insight there.

*_* I second the vote for a pchat day icon

i do like to say, i really liked the commuity we got back a few months ago, everyone was so encouraging and nice! :D

i dont really know what to do with your situation, or to say...but i hope that things do get better. >:
for you, for all of us.

Usually when i am on here, i do comment other peoples art and oekaki and whatnot.

i really dont know whats going on here, i thought it was just me who had to go through finals and work and whatnot.

it could be that.
but i really dont know. >:

paintchat day sounds kind of fun. :D

I've definitely noticed that it has been a bit quiet and stagnant around here lately (and I admit that I haven't been as active as I might like).

I really do love all the unique features here, but I personally have come here for years (and stayed) for the oekaki aspect. I feel like this is getting lost a slowly, as I notice only a few new oekakiis every few weeks or so. Maybe its because a lot of people just don't oekaki anymore, have moved on, are too busy or whatnot. But I really miss the days when there were several fresh new shiny oekakis every day. I don't have suggestions at the moment to get more drive for people to oekaki, but I do agree that I miss the contests, holiday exchanges, and whatnot (though maybe they were a nightmare to manage?)

Another thing that bothers me is that maybe some people think that this is just a place where you can dump a lot of art and not interact with other members at all. Its hard to become part of a community if you never comment/interact! You don't have to tell your personal life's story or anything but everyone appreciates comments and random shout outs every now and again.

Anyway that's just a few of my comments, I'll post more later if I think of something else.

AND WELCOME BACK!
